- The coast road to Sitia is windingEast of Agios Nikolaos the road follows the cliffs. It is scenic and paved, but slower than the VOAK.
- Go to Spinalonga earlyBoats from Plaka run all day, but the island is hot and busy by midday. Take one of the first crossings.
- Refuel in townPetrol stations are rare between Agios Nikolaos and Sitia. Fill up before heading east.
